My Philotimo Experience: from the inside - Nigel Walton

We asked the Philotimo team a simple question “What is your Philotimo Experience?” Read on for their perspective from the inside and what Philotimo means to them.

Nigel Walton, Philotimo Sales

After watching and helping usher hundreds of businesses across our doorstep over the last eight years, to me Philotimo means opportunity. The opportunity to do more, to be more, to see more.

Growing up as an artistic kid in the middle of farming country, the idea of access to opportunity is important to me. In rural Australia, we often missed out to our city counterparts in the way of specialised programs, A-grade educators, school funding and general facilities; meaning we had to the best we could with what we had available.

Having worked to help grow Philotimo over the last decade I see that what I experienced in my upbringing mirrors the experience of many business owners. They are often under resourced, undercapitalised and under pressure to learn the business of business whilst servicing the thousand other demands of the day-to-day. This is all happening while big larger businesses are enjoying access to funds, resources and expertise to propel them forward at a rapid rate.

To me, Philotimo levels the playing field.

Philotimo is about creating a decision making framework to approach any challenge in our business, break it down and move past it (quickly) to the opportunity on the other side.

It is about creating the opportunity to stand back look at the future and purposefully build our business by design. A business that delivers for - rather than detracting from - us personally.

Perhaps most importantly, to me Philotimo is about giving us permission to unashamedly focus on and put consistent actions towards the things we say matter - to ourselves, to our business and to our communities. Because when people embrace that opportunity and run with it… well that is the most gratifying part of what we do.
